Mark Maldonado

Salt Lake City, Utah

Mark Paul Maldonado, age 65, passed away on August 16, 2026 in Salt Lake City due to natural causes. Born October 16, 1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Francis Massock and Daniel Maldonado. Married to Brenda Jean Flitton in 1988.

Words fall short of conveying the presence of a man who could leave such an impact before even using them. It was often said “Mark was the loudest guy in the room without saying a word.” Attending West high school in 1979, he excelled as an athlete playing both football and baseball. It was there he met his wife-to-be Brenda with whom he would go on to build a life of absolute devotion and organic love, which he extended to all those around him. An exceptional carpenter, his work graces nearly every corner of the home he made with his family. During his 35 year career at Dominion Energy (Questar) he would go on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Science specializing in Occupational Safety and Health, earning him one of his many beloved nicknames, “Safety Man”. Mark’s loved ones are vast and populous enough to have earned him several nicknames. Some friends called him “Oz” due to his endearing sense of omniscient infallibility. He was an avid runner, completing over 20 marathons across the state, earning him what became, arguably, his most well known nickname “Papa Fitness”. He didn’t just run marathons, he conquered them - their courses serving as avenues for his vivacity and excellence in all areas celebrating the thrill of endurance, support and community. Mark is survived by his wife Brenda Maldonado, son Zachary Maldonado and Zach’s fiancé Catalina Gallegos, brother Daniel Maldonado and sister Val Marty. Preceded in death by his mother Francis, father Daniel, and sister Chris. An intimate celebration of life will be held in his honor for close friends and family.
