Our “Uncle Joe” took off to meet his parents, siblings, and his perro Ringo in heaven.
Preceded in death by parents: Mary A. & Reginaldo F. Gallegos. Sisters: Betty Jo and Judy. Brothers: Raymond, Al, and Robert. Survived by sisters: Louise, Bobbie, Carmen, and Marie.
He loved his many hitos & hitas (nephews & nieces) He was especially close with Marcel & Leah, Bernie, Angelina & Anthony, Nicholas, and Maria & Rudy. They joined him in celebrating life by doing the things he loved. Live concerts, especially the blues, horse races, camping, and Wendover but only after they comb their hair.
Uncle Joe started his career in Utah as a Cartographer for the United States Forest Service. Later, he took off to continue his career in Maryland as an Oceanographer with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. He made many friends in Maryland who will miss him dearly.
He loved playing golf with his hitos and friends and enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Raiders, Utah Jazz and Mammoths, and San Diego Padres.
He was well known for being quick-witted, mentally sharp, alert, and able to think or respond cleverly without hesitation… allegedly. He was a happy camper!
Even though our brother and Tio was famous for taking off and leaving us stranded, as he would say, “allegedlyyy”, we always knew that was who he was, and we had “two choices”.
To us, this is how he will be remembered. He left life like he left the party.
Forever and always, he is Joe Cool.
We will be holding a Rosary at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, at the Gallegos family grave sites (east side), on Sunday, June 28th, at 12:30 p.m., a celebration of life will be announced in the near future - information will be posted here once those details are finalized.
