Deborah Zemek

Deborah Ann (Cassie) Zemek, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 2, 2026 at home just days after celebrating life with everyone she loved. She was born on September 29, 1959 in Stafford Springs, Connecticut to Janet (Zizka) Raisrick and Don Peter Caisse.

Deborah was a patient listener with a compassionate heart who offered advice, lifted spirits, and calmed souls. On quiet days, she found peace in a cup of coffee, a good book, and a kitty curled up in her lap; or simply looking out over the New England coast. On busy days, she found fulfillment working with dear friends at The University of Utah, Scientific Computing & Imaging Institute, or at home creating in the kitchen.

Food was Deborah’s love language. If she cared for you, she would pour her love into an amazing meal, pie, cookie, candy, or pastry made just for you. Our hearts and pantries will never be the same.

Deborah is preceded in death by her parents Janet (Zizka) Raisrick and Don Peter Caisse, and her brother, Peter Joseph Caisse.

She is survived by her partner Steve Backus, her son, Nicholas Zemek of Storrs, Connecticut, and many loved ones from coast to coast.
